Distribution Senior Design/Engineering Lead

POWER Engineers, Inc. Canada is currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer / Technologist with experience in distribution design and engineering. Initial expectations are for this individual to perform project work and develop local client relationships with Manitoba Hydro. This position has a high likelihood of evolving into a managerial position and as such the ideal candidate must be able to effectively lead, mentor, and manage a diverse staff of engineers, technologists, and drafters. This position is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba and will be within our Power Delivery Distribution Business Unit.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Working with a team to complete detailed designs for overhead and underground distribution projects (up to 66kV), including primary line rebuilds, relocations and extensions, transformer installations, subdivision URD, voltage conversions, and overhead to underground relocations

  • Coordinating work with project managers, schedulers, drafters and customers for various projects taking place throughout Manitoba Hydro’s service territory

  • Providing cost estimates to project managers, contractors, customers and accounting staff

  • Providing technical assistance to project managers, contractors, junior employees, field crews and customers for the purposes of conforming to the Canadian Electrical Code and Manitoba Electrical Codes

  • Assist in the quality review process of project deliverables

  • Network with clients and maintain client relationships

  • Develop competitive proposal responses for competitively bid projects

  • Support projects during construction

  • Some travel will be required

Education/Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree or a Technology diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering, additional engineering backgrounds will be considered

  • Five to ten (5-10) years’ experience in the design, operation, construction, and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution lines

  • A strong understanding of utility standards, CSA, and powerline construction techniques

  • Experience with eGIS and G.E. Smallworld systems is required

  • A strong understanding of PLS CADD, O-Cal, or SPIDA Calc is required

  • Ability to work in design teams, is self-motivated to perform assigned tasks, and take the initiative to learn the position

  • Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite

  • Managerial and leadership experience is considered an asset

  • Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation is preferred

  • Strong initiative

  • Strong written and oral communication skills in order to communicate professionally with internal team members and clients

  • Strong command of the English language both verbal and written
