Civil/Structural Engineering Co-op/Internship (Overhead Transmission Lines)

Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities:

POWER Engineers is currently seeking a talented civil/structural engineering student for a summer through fall (2023) co-op/internship in our Syracuse, NY office. For the first two weeks, the candidate will need to be in the office five days per week, then they can shift to hybrid with an average of two days in the office. They are welcome to do as many days in the office as desired but must be in the office for an average of two days per week. Under the guidance of experienced staff, the successful candidate will learn to design overhead transmission line and substation structures, foundations, and their related facilities.

Required Education/Experience

  • Pursuit of a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited university

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Candidate is willing and able to work remotely

  • Candidate is interested in consulting engineering and the electric utility industry

  • Candidate is legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship

Desired Education/Experience

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA

  • Ideal coursework includes structural analysis, concrete, steel, soils, foundations, and surveying.

  • Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills will be critical for the successful completion of tasks

  • Prior internship and/or related engineering experience is a plus

  • Students who have passed or are scheduled to take the FE/EIT exam will be strongly considered for this position

  • Familiarity with design, drafting, or engineering software such as MATHCAD, SOLIDWORKS, AUTOCAD, etc. as well as Microsoft Excel is beneficial

DOE Salary: The pay range for this position is $21-25 per hour; however, base pay may be higher or lower depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This figure does not include additional compensation such as health benefits, vacation, 401k, etc.
