Senior Transmission Line Engineer

Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

POWER Engineers is currently seeking a Senior Transmission Line Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Overhead Transmission Line Department in our San Diego, California office. Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of transmission line design including new lines, relocations, line ratings, rebuilds, upgrades, structure replacements, fiber optic additions, and as-builts

  • Lead transmission design efforts with projects ranging from 12kV to 500kV

  • Prepare and check design deliverables including PLS-CADD models, plan and profiles drawings, material selection, and construction specifications

  • Perform quality reviews for both internal and subcontractor deliverables

  • Prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints

  • Manage and develop project estimates, schedules, bids, and engineering support

  • Evaluate design options, criteria, and routes for technical merit

  • Understand construction standards and requirements for high voltage line work

  • Coordinate with contractor and subcontractors to ensure client satisfaction

  • Travel to client offices/field/vendor facilities as needed

Required Education/Experience

  • Civil (BSCE) or Electrical (BSEE) degree

  • Experience in the design of overhead High Voltage and Extra High Voltage transmission lines including route selection, line and structure spotting, structure design and analysis, and development of construction packages

  • Understanding of GO-95 and NESC

  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-Lite

  • The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to communicate effectively with internal team members and external client personnel

  • Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite

Desired Education/Experience

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in transmission line design as outlined above

  • Professional Engineering license (PE) strongly preferred

  • Experience with PLS-TOWER, LPile, AutoCAD/Microstation, MFAD, and Mircosoft Project is strongly preferred

  • Knowledge of transmission line routing, field program planning, project management, EPC projects, and line construction

  • Distribution/underbuild design experience is a plus

  • Understanding of ANSI, ASTM, ASCE, and IEC standards

  • Managerial and leadership skills
