Senior Ecologist

POWER Engineers Inc. is seeking a Senior Ecologist for our Environmental Practice.

Roles and responsibilities

The person in this position needs to be detail-oriented, have demonstrated ability to work independently, and have effective personnel/project management, communication, and technical writing skills. The candidate must have the ability to supervise personnel, supervise/manage wetland studies, as well as the ability to conduct/manage other biological field surveys. The successful candidate will also be responsible for with the management of biological services including: developing and expanding market segments through services, client management and business development, personnel resource management, and technical oversight.

The Senior Ecologist will oversee the preparation of proposals and cost estimates provided to clients to ensure proper scoping of services, availability of manpower and pricing to achieve desired profitability. Additionally, the Senior Ecologist aids with daily operations including staff training, development and performance review, utilization of equipment and facilities, safety oversight, quality of services and work product, timely delivery of services and deliverables, and adherence to company policies and procedures. As a Senior Ecologist you will support and help build environmental project team focused on oil and gas pipelines, transmission lines, renewable energy, environmental surveys, NEPA analyses, and permitting services. The candidate should have an established and successful history of managing infrastructure permitting projects with responsibilities that have included developing proposals and cost estimates, executing projects, developing strategic plans for new business, and recruitment and hiring of key personnel to support the growth of the team.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or other related field

  • Seven (7) + years’ prior consulting work, ideally with linear corridor projects, e.g., pipelines, utility scale power generation, and electric transmission

  • Experience managing staff, projecting workloads, and scheduling work

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality and professionalism

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Project Management experience on large multi-disciplinary projects

  • Substantial knowledge of Clean Water Act (CWA) and Endangered Species Act (ESA) regulations

  • Substantial, hands-on experience with CWA permitting and ESA consultations in the Western U.S., with a Texas focus

  • A demonstrated technical competence and project experience in natural resource fields applicable to industrial siting and licensing or environmental permitting projects

  • Ability and experience in business development and market expansion in the southwest

  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout the region with potential travel throughout the U.S.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Master’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or other related field

  • Certification or licensure in field of expertise. CWB, PWS, PMP or other professional designation preferred

  • Ten (10) + years of prior consulting work in biological sciences, ideally with linear corridor projects, e.g., pipelines, utility scale power generation, and electric transmission

  • Experience managing staff, projecting workloads, and scheduling work

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality and professionalism

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Project Management experience on large multi-disciplinary projects
