Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities
POWER Engineers is currently seeking a CAD designer to work as an electrical substation designer in the Substation Department of the Power Delivery Division in our Phoenix, Arizona office. Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support Substation project work and will develop physical layouts, plans and section views; control house design and details; cable and conduit plans and details; ground grid design and details; lightning protection plans; yard lighting plans.
The successful candidate shall be able to specify and select substation equipment; contribute to substation equipment specifications, proposal development, and project scheduling.
Other duties include understanding and adhering to client drafting standards and working individually within a team to complete complex and technically challenging aspects of electric utility substation design.
Associate’s degree or equivalent technical education.
Candidate must have experience with AutoCAD (version 2016 or newer).
Candidate must have experience with MicroStation (V8 or newer).
Candidate must have understanding of substation equipment and its function.
Candidate must have mechanical reasoning skills and attention to detail.
Candidate shall have good command of the Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Excel and Word.
The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
5+ years' experience in electric utility substation design.
Familiarity with Raster Design and/or Bentley Descartes.
Ability to produce applicable drawings from rough sketches, notes, vendor drawings, and such.
Ability to select non-engineered materials (bus, high voltage switches, cable, insulators).
Ability to provide material take-off lists such as P&C equipment, wire conduit, HV connectors, and bus supports.
3D CAD experience is a plus.
