Power Testing and Energization (PTE) Project Manager

POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Project Manager to manage projects in our Power Testing and Energization (PTE) group. We are looking for candidates with strong business acumen, business development experience (must be a Seller/Doer), and solid electricity/testing technical skills. This is a very fast-paced job working on several short-term projects at a time that may last from a day to several weeks in duration.

This Project Manager may be located in our Denver, Phoenix, Houston or Fort Worth offices.

Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing technical and financial aspects of PTE projects, managing and developing client relationships, and marketing POWER's services to existing and new clients in the respective region. Other responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Manage, safety, scope, schedule, and budget on testing services on electrical systems up through the 500 kV class.

  • Develop scope of work documents, work plans, budgets, schedules and related proposal documents and presenting the finished proposal to perspective or established clients both internally and externally

  • Provide internal mentoring and leadership to junior team members as assigned and as a regular order of business

  • Manage project teams in a matrixed reporting environment

  • Promote company culture and manage internal and external relationships

  • Ensure that all PM responsibilities are addressed, including developing & maintaining schedules, leading internal and external project status meetings, budgeting and scheduling maintenance, preparing proposals, and taking a significant role in client relationships

  • Interface with POWER personnel and subcontractors that provide environmental, construction management/observation and testing/commissioning services, depending on the scope of any particular project

  • This position will require extensive travel (80%), mostly regionally, with some national clients

Required Education/Experience

  • Fifteen (15) + years’ progressive experience managing substation testing or construction projects at distribution and transmission voltages

  • Must be familiar with power delivery processes and have experience managing testing and commissioning projects

  • Must have successful track record of leading project teams

  • Must have a working knowledge of both NETA ATS and MTS testing requirements

  • Must have successful track record of interfacing with clients both internally and externally

  • Familiarity with CPM scheduling and project estimating and scheduling techniques and software

  • Must have a good understanding of project management techniques and approaches, to applying project controls during project execution

  • Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record

Desired Education/Experience

  • BSEE or equivalent experience

  • PE registration and/or PMP certification

  • Demonstrated Project Management skills: CPM scheduling, budget and cost analysis, management of project teams, and proposal writing & client marketing and project presentations

  • Experience with energy projects including energy conservation (deep retrofits of buildings), renewable energy, energy security and related projects

  • Familiarity with regional utilities
