Distribution Project Engineer

POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer for the Power Delivery Distribution Department in Phoenix, Arizona.

Roles and Responsibilities

This project engineer will perform aspects of conventional design engineering and analysis along with managing engineers on smaller, often multi-discipline, engineering projects and interfaces directly with clients. Initial expectations are for this individual to perform project work and develop local client relationships to prepare to lead a team doing similar work. Candidates will apply advanced engineering techniques and analyses to solve project-related problems.

Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

  • Development of engineering work plans, budgets, and proposals

  • Preparation of construction cost estimates

  • Distribution design, including construction specifications and drawings

  • Quality reviews of project deliverables

  • Assigning tasks to/coordinating with internal/external project team members

  • The main point of contact between the client and POWER to ensure the project scope, schedule and budget are met

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent industry related experience) from an ABET accredited university required –engineering, engineering management, or construction management discipline preferred

  • Five (5) + years of experience in the design and engineering of overhead and/or underground distribution lines (4kV through 35kV)

  • The qualified candidate should be experienced with the following:

  • National Electric Safety Code

  • Utility standards

  • Distribution design software or utility Geographical Information Systems (GIS) such as GE Smallworld, ArcFM, PLS-POLE, Distribution Design Studio, aeGIS, SPIDAcalc, ArcMap, PoleForeman, etc.

  • Must have good written and oral communication skills in order to communicate effectively with internal team members and external client personnel

  • Must be able to successfully pass client's background screening process

  • Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

  • Some travel expected

Desired Education/Experience

  • PE license or ability to obtain one in the state of Arizona

  • Prior experience leading project design teams

  • The preferred candidate would be experienced with the following:

  • IOU Utilities

  • Permitting including: City, County, State, Highway, & Railroad

  • Familiarity with various scheduling and financial analysis tools for project management
