Description
Mid-Level Distribution Designer
POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Mid-Level Distribution Designer for the Power Delivery Distribution Department to work out of the Overland Park, Kansas. This position offers both hybrid and remote work options.
Roles and Responsibilities
The qualified candidate should have previous exposure to utility standards, the ability to use typical industry design software packages as well as general construction knowledge and aptitude. The candidate will be responsible for performing designs on both overhead and underground distribution systems (4 kV to 35 kV), performing calculations, interpreting codes and standards, creating construction packages and performing quality control reviews. The candidate must be capable of working both independently and within a team framework and will be expected to deal directly with clients and therefore must have a strong command of the English language and possess good written and oral communications skills.
Required Education/Experience
Five (5) + years of experience in designing and operating overhead and underground distribution lines (4 kV through 35 kV)
Familiarity with distribution design software, the National Electric Safety Code, and utility best practices
Experience preparing forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and Right-of-Way acquisition, estimating costs, and customer advocacy such as, acquiring easements
Underground design experience working and coordinating with developers for new residential, commercial developments and high rises
Experience designing underground feeders from the Substation, cable sizing and cable derating
Familiarity with OH feeder, lateral and riser design, pole bore and pole foreman
Strong command of the English language and possess good written and oral communications skills
Must be able to successfully pass client's background screening process
Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Desired Education/Experience
A two-year technical certificate or degree, prior utility design experience, or distribution line construction
Prior utility experience
Exposure to utility Geographical Information Systems (GIS) such as GE Smallworld, ArcFM, DDS, DM, etc.
The ability to lead and direct a team of engineers, designers, and drafters
AutoCAD experience
Some travel should be expected
