Distribution Operator/Control Center Consultant

POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Distribution Operator/Control Center Consultant to join our Geospatial Asset Management (GAM) team. This position is posted in San Diego, Phoenix, Minneapolis, and Denver, but may not be tied to a specific POWER office. Please list your preferred location in the application questionnaire.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Distribution Operator/ Control Center Consultant is responsible for business consulting, solution definition, data review/correction and delivery of Distribution Management System (DMS) projects. This individual must possess knowledge of electric distribution and sub-transmission grid operations, grid automation, controls, settings, and other operational systems used to manage a safe and reliable system.

Required Education/Experience

  • Must have four (4) years’ real-time Distribution Control Center floor experience in the following areas:

  • Control Center Floor Operations

  • Outage management and restoration procedures


  • Simulator Training

  • Ability to read and understand schematic and geo-representation of substation and distribution feeder maps

  • Well-versed in radio communications to trouble-men and maintenance crews

  • Understands safety clearances, holds, and switching orders for the coordination of system operation, equipment installation, maintenance, and repair

  • Familiar with reports for log of operations, available generation resources, SAIDI, CAIDI, SAIFI, gas analysis, and others

  • Ability to travel periodically to the project locations is required

Desired Education/Experience

  • North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) certification as a NERC Certified System Operator – Reliability

  • IBEW Affiliation is a plus
