Special Systems DesignerSummary of Roles and Responsibilities:

POWER Engineers, Inc. is currently seeking a Mid to Senior Special Systems Designer or Engineer to work in our Facilities Electrical Group in our Madison, Wisconsin location. In this role, you will work as part of a multi-discipline engineering team leading and executing the low voltage electrical design components of federal and industrial projects. This position will entail creating and issuing construction drawings and specifications, studies and reports, as well as, being able to demonstrate good working design knowledge of voice, data, audiovisual, paging, access control, intrusion detection, and video surveillance systems within the boundaries of a building and on a site surrounding a building. Applicant must have excellent knowledge and experience with the NEC, NFPA documents, ICC documents, UFC documents, and applicable IEEE standards. Experience with building electrical distribution system design is strongly preferred. Strong team leadership, mentoring, excellent communication skills, presentation skills, motivation, positive attitude, and ability to work on multiple projects concurrently will be core roles for this person. This position will interface directly with internal and external clients and will demonstrate a proven ability to drive projects to successful completion within budget and schedule constraints. Some travel will be required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Associates Degree or higher in technology design or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university

  • BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification

  • Working knowledge of ANSI/TIA and BICSI standards and codes

  • Professional Engineering License with the ability to be licensed in additional states

  • 7+ years of applicable experience in the design and specification of the low voltage systems mentioned above for commercial, federal, and/or industrial facilities

  • Ability to work with and be supported by other senior engineers for guidance and act as a design lead

  • Shall be capable of self-performing all low voltage design tasks associated with the project; from proposal, design and drafting, engineering calculations, cost estimate, to client reviews and construction support

  • Capability to work with other discipline leads, PMs and others to manage and run all the low voltage design efforts for the team on a project while supporting the needs of other disciplines to effectively coordinate a project

  • Ability to mentor junior or mid-level electrical engineers and designers

  • Solid foundation of design and drafting utilizing AutoCAD and/or REVIT

  • Effective in prioritizing and setting deadlines, while also adapting to change

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with cross-disciplinary team members and clients

  • Ability to promote and market low voltage systems scope and your skills to new and existing clients

Desired Education/Experience

  • Experience designing to NAVFAC and USACE design standards

  • Electrical distribution design experience

  • Lighting design experience

  • Fire Alarm System design experience

  • Data Center design experience

  • MasterSpec specification authoring and editing experience

  • SpecsIntact specification authoring and editing experience

  • Solid understanding of CSI specifications and how to utilize them

  • Construction cost estimating experience

  • Autodesk REVIT experience
