Archeological Principal Investigator

POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a full time Archeological Principal Investigator to join its rapidly growing Cultural Resources Group. This position will be based out of our Austin or Houston, Texas offices. The successful candidate must be able to meet the minimum requirements to be a Secretary of the Interior-qualified professional Archeologist and demonstrated ability to obtain and execute permits under the Texas Antiquities Code (TAC).

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage the technical aspects of research, fieldwork, synthesis, and product production within project-specific research designs and frameworks

  • Execute field operations to State and Federal standards

  • Prepare sound and well written technical reports that meet the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Historic Preservation and other federal and state review agency standards and guidelines

  • Perform regular QA/QC oversight of junior staff deliverables and fieldwork

  • Direct and oversee junior staff during archeological field and laboratory operations, and report preparation on a Project specific basis

  • Successfully manage and complete projects on time and within budget, and when necessary coordinate with senior staff to adjust budgets and schedules

  • Work with a multidisciplinary team of archeologists, architectural historians, historians, biologists, and ecologists on a variety of project scales and types

  • Assist in developing and supporting internal and external client relations

  • Assist in proposal writing

  • Ability to perform duties on multiple simultaneous projects, sometimes with conflicting deadlines

  • Responsible for performing all project tasks within scope, budgetary, and schedule constraints and according to professional and POWER standards

  • Travel as needed to perform project and/or company-related tasks as deemed necessary

Required Education/Experience

  • Master’s Degree in archeology or closely related field

  • Four (4) years' full-time demonstrated experience in research and writing concentrating in the field of Cultural Resource Management (CRM)

  • At least two (2) years' experience at the Principal Investigator level

  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the National Register of Historic Places criteria and Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and working knowledge of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act

  • Ability to effectively utilize research facilities and internet-based research databases and collections, conduct research activities, and conduct fieldwork using appropriate field techniques

  • Ability to document findings in a professional manner and format

  • Creative problem-solving abilities

  • Interpersonal skills needed to function within a project team and to work closely with a team supervisor and/or a project manager

  • Ability to lead projects and supervise staff as well as contribute effectively as team member on large project teams

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Exhibit permit experience for successfully supervising Phase I survey field investigations, data analysis, technical report production and curation, especially for proposed pipelines

  • FERC experience

  • Experience supervising testing and data recovery projects

  • Permitting experience in Texas and states surrounding Texas
