Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities
POWER Engineers is currently seeking a Substation Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our Hailey, Idaho office. Flexibility is available for a potential hybrid/remote work environment.
Responsibilities
The Electrical Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with POWER's mission statement and our culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving the goals of the department, maintain POWER's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork and meet the needs of our clients.
This position includes working individually within a team to complete complex and technically challenging aspects of electrical utility substation design and understanding and adhering to client standards.
Perform the detailed design of low to extra high voltage substations including, but not limited to:
o One-line diagrams
o Protection and control schematic development
o Wiring diagrams
o SCADA
o Communications
o Station physical layouts
o Material lists
o Conduit and cable sizing/routing
o AC and DC systems calculations and sizing
o Substation grounding
Participation in quality assurance and quality control programs.
Occasional travel.
Required Education/Experience
Two (2) or more years’ experience in utility substation design is required.
BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option.
Candidate must have an understanding of substation equipment and its function.
Candidate shall have good command of the Microsoft Office suite, with emphasis on Excel and Word.
The candidate must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
Desired Education/Experience
Three (3) or more years’ experience in utility substation design is preferred.
Ability to produce applicable drawings from rough sketches, notes, vendor drawings, and such.
Ability to provide material take-off lists such as P&C equipment, wire conduit, HV connectors, and bus supports.
Engineer In Training certificate (EIT) or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
