Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

POWER Engineers is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Hailey, Idaho office. Responsibilities

  • The position includes working individually within a team to complete complex and technically challenging aspects of electrical utility substation design and understanding and adhering to client standards.

  • Perform the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations. Typical designs include but are not limited to:

  • One-line diagrams

  • Protection and control schematic development

  • Wiring diagrams


  • Communications

  • Substation physical layouts

  • Material lists

  • Conduit and cable sizing/routing

  • AC and DC systems calculations and sizing

  • Substation grounding

  • Participation in quality assurance and quality control programs.

    Required Education/Experience

  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) from an accredited university preferably with a power option.

  • Candidate must have understanding of substation equipment and its function.

  • Candidate shall have good command of the Microsoft Office suite, with an emphasis on Excel and Word.

  • The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.

  • Candidate must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

    Desired Education/Experience

  • Three (3) or more years experience in utility substation design is preferred.

  • Ability to produce applicable drawings from rough sketches, notes, vendor drawings, and such.

  • Ability to provide material take-off lists such as P&C equipment, wire conduit, HV connectors, and bus supports.

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
