Quality Assurance Specialist

Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include conducting and reporting on supplier qualification assessments, vendor surveillance, project quality audits, and remedial activities for the manufacturing, construction, and repair of components for power generation plants, transmission lines, and substations. Responsibilities include the preparation and planning to conduct pre-inspection and exit meetings with manufacturers and contractors.

Required Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma (see desired education)

  • Valid AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), six (6) years minimum.

  • Ten (10) years minimum as Quality Control or Quality Assurance of structural-steel or pipe manufacturing or construction, and two (2) of the ten (10) years as Quality Assurance preferred or less depending on experience and certifications.

  • Five (5) years minimum in the manufacturing of components or construction of power plants, transmission lines, substations, or petrochemical plants.

  • Certified or previously certified as an ASNT SNT-TC-1A Level II NDE Technician in the UT, MT, and PT nondestructive examination methods.

  • Certified or previously certified as an ASNT SNT-TC-1A Level II NDE Technician in the RT nondestructive examination method or has proficient experience and capabilities to review and interpret radiographic film of welds in accordance with acceptance criteria per codes and standards.

  • At a minimum, proficient experience and knowledge in the following:

  • AWS D1.1 and ASME B31.1 or B31.3 standards.

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Writing reports and executive summaries.

  • Construction and manufacturing drawings, including electrical one lines and diagrams, P&ID’s, and isometric.

  • Weld procedure specification, procedure qualification records, and welder qualifications.

Desired Education/Experience:

  • College Degree (community, state, or university).

  • Trade School Certificate of Completion (welding, nondestructive examination, or inspection).

  • Certified or previously certified as a ISO 9001 Auditor or from other similar organizations for auditing manufacturing facilities or construction projects.

  • Certified or previously certified as a welder in the FCAW, GMAW, SMAW, GTAW, or SAW processes in accordance with AWS or ASME standards.

  • Proficient experience and knowledge in other construction disciplines as soils and compaction, concrete, high strength bolting and testing, electrical, coatings, and galvanizing.

  • Global experience as quality control or quality assurance in China, India, or Mexico.
