Distribution Field Survey Technician

POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Distribution Field Survey Technician for the Power Delivery Distribution Department. This position is based out of our Ft. Worth, Texas office and will be required to survey new and existing distribution utilities within the state of Texas.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The qualified candidate should have a basic familiarity with distribution systems up to 25kV, which include, but not limited to the design, construction, and operation of utility electrical systems

  • Perform staking, marking, and flagging for utility structures in rural and urban areas

  • Perform new project survey to identify routes for new and existing distribution utilities within private property and along lease, county, farm to market, and interstate roadways within Texas

Required Education/Experience

  • General experience in the design, operation, construction, and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution lines (4 kV through 25 kV) and/or strong familiarity with construction processes

  • Exposure to utility standards, NESC, and an understanding of construction techniques

  • Experience locating existing utilities and using survey grade equipment such as total station, tremble, other GPS devices

  • Familiarity identifying ROW (Right of Way) and understanding how to read ROW maps

  • Must be able to successfully pass client's background screening process

  • Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

Desired Education/Experience

  • A two-year technical certificate or degree

  • Prior utility survey experience or distribution line work

  • Exposure to utility Geographical Information Systems (GIS); GE Smallworld, ArcFM, etc.

  • Ability to work in design teams, is self-motivated to perform assigned tasks, and take the initiative to learn the trade

  • Exposure to utility standards, the ability to use design software packages, and general construction knowledge and aptitude

  • Must have strong command of the English language and possess good written and oral communications skills

  • Travel should be expected
