Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities
POWER Engineers is currently seeking a customer service oriented, communicative, self-motivated electrical protection and control designer to work in the Substation BIM Department of the Power Delivery Division in our Fort Mill, South Carolina office (or other POWER office). Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support substation BIM project work and will assist in the rollout and implementation of BIM style software applications that are replacing current substation design processes at POWER. Duties include assisting our clients in the rollout and implementation of these BIM style software applications as well.
The successful candidate will be providing quality assurance oversight to production teams for BIM content created as well as projects and their drawings.
Other duties include understanding and adhering to client drafting standards and working individually within a team to complete complex and technically challenging aspects of electric utility substation design.
The successful candidate will also be assisting with training content and documentation development, the maintenance of POWER BIM standards, and process development and improvement.
The successful candidate shall be able to specify and select relevant substation equipment, develop one line diagrams, three line diagrams, control house layouts, protection panel layouts, schematics, wiring diagrams, network and IRIG-B diagrams, cable schedules, material lists and calculations to support design (if needed).
Associate's degree or equivalent technical education.
Minimum 6 months work experience using AutoCAD-Electrical design software (or equivalent ECAD software).
Candidate must have solid experience with AutoCAD.
Candidate must have solid experience with Microsoft Office applications and Office 365.
Candidate must have an understanding of electrical controls design.
Candidate must have electrical reasoning skills and attention to detail.
The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
3+ years' experience in electric utility substation design.
Familiarity with Raster and "brownfield" (retrofit) design processes.
Any familiarity with Computer Programming languages (e.g. AutoLISP, VBA, VB, .NET, Node.js, etc.)
Familiarity with databases and database design.
Familiarity with Autodesk Vault (or other Document Management Systems).
Experience with Microsoft SharePoint.
Substation or Utility Construction field experience.
Ability to produce applicable drawings from rough sketches, notes, vendor drawings, and such.
Ability to select materials based on technical requirements.
