Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

POWER Engineers is currently seeking an experienced, energetic, self-starting team member with a strong structural engineering background to perform engineering design activities for electrical substations. This position will be with our Substation design teams out of our Power Delivery Substation Department located in the southeast region. This includes departments in our Atlanta, GA, Ft. Mill, SC, Orlando, F: and Richmond, VA locations. Flexibility is available to work remotely, hybrid and/or in the office. Home residence is preferred to be in GA, FL, SC or VA with consideration for locations in NC, TN and WV.

Responsibilities

  • Leading other engineers, designers, and drafters and self-performing all aspects ofsubstation structural design including preparation of steel performance drawings, fabrication drawings, foundation designs and construction inspection.

  • Development of steel and concrete construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals, and project schedules.

  • Support of substation physical design with bus analysis calculations and coordinating with multiple disciplines on results.

  • Preparation of calculation packages to satisfy client and code requirements.

  • Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients

  • Support Project Manager and Project Engineer with project reporting needs.

  • Support proposal development.

  • Support the mentorship and training of other team members.

  • Shall understand and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs.

  • Occasional travel will be required.

Required Education/Experience

  • BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering) degree from an accredited college.

  • 4+ years structural design experience.

  • Finite Element modeling experience; Risa3D or STAAD Pro.

  • Familiarity with steel detailing.

  • Foundation analysis design software experience.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, tracking and organizing many tasks of varying importance and size.

  • Proven ability and desire to mentor and help others.

  • A strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.

Desired Education/Experience

  • Seven (7) to ten (10) or more years of experience in structural engineering

  • Experience in substation civil design including permitting support, site design, roadway design and grading design are not required, but would be beneficial.

  • Experience in electric utility substation design (15kV through 500kV) is a plus.

  • Ability to independently create calculation packages.

  • Understanding of ASCE 7 loading requirements.

  • Ability to perform basic civil engineering tasks.

  • AutoCAD or MicroStation experience is a plus.

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

  • Professional engineering licensure is a plus.

  • Ability to successfully participate in multiple projects concurrently and mange budgets and schedules.
