Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

POWER Engineers is currently seeking a Substation Senior Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Maine office. Responsibilities

  • Position includes working individually and leading teams to complete complex and technically challenging aspects of electrical utility substation design and understanding and adhering to client standards.

  • Grow and manage relationships with alliance clients.

  • Mentor less experienced staff in substation project execution.

  • Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations. Typical designs include but are not limited to:

  • One-line diagrams

  • Protection and control schematic development

  • Wiring diagrams

  • SCADA

  • Communications

  • Substation physical layouts

  • Material lists

  • Conduit and cable sizing/routing

  • AC and DC systems calculations and sizing

  • Substation grounding

  • Selection of substation equipment; writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling.

  • Ensure POWER quality procedures are followed and that the team is resourced in an optimal manner.

  • Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients across multiple offices.

  • Manage all schedule, budget, and quality of assigned projects.

Required Education/Experience

  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) from an accredited university preferably with a power option.

  • Professional Engineering license (PE) or ability to obtain within one year.

  • Experience in managing several people on a project team.

  • Experience filling the role of project engineer for several projects occurring concurrently.

  • Candidate must have understanding of substation equipment and its function.

  • Candidate shall have good command of the Microsoft Office suite, with an emphasis on Excel and Word.

  • The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

Desired Education/Experience

  • Ten (10) or more years experience in utility substation design is preferred.

  • Ability to produce applicable drawings from rough sketches, notes, vendor drawings, and such.

  • Ability to provide material take-off lists such as P&C equipment, wire conduit, HV connectors, and bus supports.

  • Experience with and established positive relationships with local clients.

  • Experience in 15kV through 500kV substation design.
