Substation Civil/Structural Engineer

Job Summary

POWER Engineers is currently seeking a Substation Civil/Structural Engineer with a strong civil engineering education and interest in performing engineering design activities for electrical substations. This position is in the Power Delivery Substation Department located in Freeport, Maine. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within driving distance of the office).

Roles and Responsibilities

  • All aspects of electrical substation civil design including permitting support, site design, foundation design, structure design, and control building design.

  • Development of civil construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals, and project schedules.

  • Support of substation physical design with bus analysis calculations and coordinating with multiple disciplines on results.

  • Preparation of calculation packages to satisfy client and code requirements.

  • Occasional travel will be required.

Required Education/Experience

  • BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering) degree from an accredited college.

  • Ability to perform basic civil engineering tasks.

  • Ability to independently create calculation packages.

  • Mechanical reasoning skills and attention to detail.

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, or the ability to complete the FE exam within one year.

  • The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.

Desired Education/Experience

  • 3 + years civil design experience.

  • Experience in electric utility substation design (15kV through 500kV) is a plus.

  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, RISA, MathCAD, LPile, and Civil 3D are beneficial.

  • Geotechnical background is a plus.

  • Professional Engineering license (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure and ability to obtain lincensure in multiple states.

  • Ability to successfully participate in multiple projects concurrently and manage budgets and schedules.
