Senior Biologist / Botanist

POWER Engineers’ Environmental Division provides planning, permitting, engineering, site assessment and corrective action services to clients worldwide. Across multiple industries, our diverse staff specialize in the areas of air, water, waste, ecological and cultural resources throughout our 45 offices located across the country and internationally.

We are seeking a Biologist/Botanist for our Eastern Biology Group working out of the Foxborough, MA office in support of our Environmental Division. The selected candidate would join a team of more than 230 environmental professionals across the U.S.

Roles and Responsibilities

This senior-level biologist/botanist will assist with and lead field botanical assessments and ecological projects located across the country, but with a focus in Massachusetts and New England. The position requires identifying protected plant species, rare turtle surveys, vernal pool and habitat assessments, as well as organizing and summarizing field-collected data, and compiling survey reports.

Candidates must be capable of understanding and implementing health and safety plans and interfacing with both internal staff (project managers and other discipline leads) as well as client representatives and team members. The successful candidate will be a technical leader responsible for developing standards and implementing quality assurance measures.

This position has a mixture of field and office duties. It is likely to require long days outdoors in variable weather and terrain. Projects require frequent travel and often working six days per week. Work locations vary, ranging throughout Massachusetts and New England.

Candidates must have positive attitudes, be physically prepared to work in difficult conditions, and be eager to become a critical part of the POWER team. The candidate should have an established and successful history of leading biological and botanical survey efforts, wetland delineations, soil surveys, environmental inspections and working as part of diverse and dynamic project teams.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Botany, Environmental Science, or other related field

  • At least fifteen (15) years' experience conducting biological surveys

  • Knowledge of the 1987 Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineations Manual and appropriate regional supplements

  • Experience with rare turtle telemetry studies

  • Experience with natural resources permit applications, including:

  • US Army Corps of Engineers Section 404 permits

  • Regional Section 401 Water Quality Certifications

  • Massachusetts Endangered Species Act (MESA)

  • Federal Endangered Species Act (ESA) regulations

  • Experience conducting habitat (vegetation) assessment & mapping, vegetation classification, and familiarity with state survey protocols

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality and professionalism

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout the region with potential travel throughout the U.S.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Master’s degree in Biology, Botany, Environmental Science, or other related field

  • Additional Certifications:

  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS)

  • New Hampshire Certified Wetland Scientist (NHCWS)

  • Certified Wildlife Biologist (CWB)
