Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities
POWER Engineers is seeking an experienced, energetic, self-starting team member with a strong structural engineering background to perform engineering design activities for electrical substations. This position is posted in multiple POWER office locations with the ability to work remotely from a mutually acceptable location (please note in the application questions where you prefer to be located).
Responsibilities
All aspects of substation structural design including preparation of steel performance drawings, fabrication drawings, foundation design and construction inspection.
Development of steel and concrete construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals and project schedules.
Understand and incorporate typical structural code requirements.
Coordination with all disciplines contributing to electrical substation design.
Preparation of calculation packages to satisfy client and code requirements.
Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients.
Support Project Manager and Project Engineer with project reporting needs.
Support proposal development.
Support the mentorship and training of other team members.
Shall understand and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs.
Occasional travel will be required.
Required Education/Experience
BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering) degree from an accredited college.
4 + years structural design experience.
Mechanical reasoning skills and attention to detail.
Finite Element modeling experience; Risa3D or STAAD Pro.
Familiarity with steel detailing
Demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, tracking and organizing many tasks of varying importance and size.
Proven ability and desire to mentor and help others.
A strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
Desired Education/Experience
Seven (7) or more years of experience in structural engineering.
Experience in foundation design, structure design, and control building design are not required, but would be beneficial.
Experience in electric utility substation design (15kV through 500kV) is a plus.
Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, RISA, MathCAD, LPile, and Civil 3D are beneficial.
Geotechnical background is a plus.
Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
Professional Engineering license (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure and ability to obtain licensure in multiple states.
Ability to successfully participate in multiple projects concurrently and manage budgets and schedules.

Salary DOE: The pay range for this position is $60K - $200K per year; however, base pay may be higher or lower depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This figure does not include additional compensation such as health benefits, vacation, 401k, etc.
