Project Control Specialist

POWER Engineers is seeking a Project Control Specialist to work in our Geospatial and Asset Management (GAM) Business Unit. The primary role of the successful candidate will be to establish, maintain and monitor project financial activity. This is an advanced project controls position that will have an emphasis on program management, contract adherence, monthly billing, and monitoring projects for payment. The individual will work closely with Project Managers and interface with clients and subcontractors.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Managers with the overall coordination of GAM projects

  • Coordinate completion of project setup forms with the Project Manager to ensure that the project is set up in accordance with the terms of the contract and regulations

  • Ensure that project set-up or modification requests are complete and accurate including proper authorizations and approvals

  • Responsible for reviewing the contract and understanding the contract terms regarding contract type, scope of work, fee schedule, and invoicing terms

  • Prepare and process client invoices that are compliant with contract terms and client specific needs

  • Develop project status reports, earned value reports and specialized client required reports

  • Analyze and prepare monthly reconciliations explaining unbilled amounts or assessing potential revenue adjustments

  • Perform project analysis, reconciliations and trending reports as needed. Report concerns to Project Managers

  • Resolve accounting differences between client, POWER and/or subcontractors

  • Assist Project Manager with tracking and verifying subcontractor contracts, task orders, and invoices

  • Maintain project-related records and assist with auditing requests (external and/or client)

  • Close out project accounts upon project completion and reconcile as needed

  • Work closely with all levels of management and disciplines/departments within GAM to coordinate and communicate relevant project information to the team

  • Attend key project meetings (internal or with client) at the Project Manager’s discretion

  • Self-motivated with proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team-based fast paced environment

  • Proactively perform duties and tasks, and provide feedback for improving current processes

  • Solid organization skills including quality, attention to detail and multi-tasking skills

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related degree

  • Ten (10) + years’ experience is required with detailed knowledge of project contracts and accounting

  • Required software skills include a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word and Excel

  • Experience working in Oracle ERP

Desired Education/Experience

  • Experience in Microsoft Project or other project management software

  • Detailed knowledge of project contracts and change order documents is preferred

  • Certified Associate of Project Management (CAPM) is preferred
