Distribution Studies and Planning Engineer

Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities:

  • The qualified candidate will be responsible for the performance of electrical studies and planning of utility electrical distribution systems, including:

  • Distribution System Planning Studies including construction work plans and long range plans

  • Real and Reactive Power Flow Studies

  • Voltage Drop Studies

  • Coordination and Sectionalizing Studies

  • Arc Flash Studies

  • The ability to interact with a wide variety of people to obtain the required information needed for performance of electrical distribution system studies

  • Prepare system study reports and perform quality reviews of project deliverables

  • Track project schedules and budgets

  • Some travel should be expected

Required Education/Experience

  • A BSEE degree

  • Power systems focus or relevant power industry internship experience

  • Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles, including understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations

  • EIT with the ability to obtain PE when experience requirements are met

  • Strong command of English language; experience and demonstrated written and oral communications skills, including the ability to present information, facilitate meetings and provide direction to others

  • Ability to work in design teams, is self-motivated to perform assigned tasks, and take the initiative to learn new topics

Desired Education/Experience

  • Exposure to Electrical Power System Analysis using one of the following software packages – CYME, Milsoft, or Synergi

  • 2+ years of experience in the electrical power delivery industry

  • Experience with utility standards and overhead/underground distribution design

  • Experience with the integration of distributed generation within the planning process
