Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

POWER Engineers is currently seeking a qualified individual to work as a Substation Project Engineer/Lead and Area Lead (Supervisor) in our Columbus, Ohio office. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within driving distance of the office).

Responsibilities

  • Grow and manage relationships with alliance clients.

  • Mentor less experienced staff in substation design and project execution.

  • Serve as the direct supervisor for a portion of the Columbus substation department staff under the supervision of the current Department Manager with the overall goal to transition and hold all responsibilities of the Area Lead for the entire Department. Responsibilities include developing performance reviews, approving timecards, managing workload of direct reports, recruiting and training new employees, and forecasting and managing financial performance of the department under the supervision of the Department Manager.

  • Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations including one-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling.

  • Ensure POWER quality procedures are followed and that the team is resourced in an optimal manner.

  • Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients across multiple offices.

  • Manage all schedule, budget, and quality of assigned projects.

  • Occasional travel will be required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Experience in 15kV through 345kV physical and electrical substation design, and IEEE/ANSI standards.

  • Experience managing small project teams.

  • Experience filling the role of project engineer for several projects occurring concurrently.

  • The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

  • The ideal candidate has a strong commitment to quality.

Desired Education/Experience

  • Ten or more years experience in utility substation design is preferred.

  • Experience with, and established positive relationships with, local clients.

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering; or technology degree in similar discipline.

  • Experience with developing annual financial forecasts and managing the financial performance of a consulting engineering group.
