Transmission Line Project Manager/Project EngineerRoles and Responsibilities

POWER Engineers is currently seeking a Transmission Line Project Manager/ Project Engineer to join our Power Delivery Overhead Transmission Line Department in one of our Canadian offices (Edmonton, Calgary, or Toronto).

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading, supporting, and coordinating the following:

  • Successfully manage multiple small to medium projects to meet required project metrics

  • Work with established clients and take a leading role in client relationships

  • Manage status reporting, invoicing, accounts receivable, and unbilled for each project

  • Develop scope/schedule/budget and monitor against plan and contract

  • Understand and adhere to budget, schedule, and quality requirements

  • Actively seek to understand client interests and drivers through normal client contact

  • Serve as primary liaison between client and project team

  • Ensure a successful project. Plan ahead, anticipate potential challenges and work with the client and project teams to find and implement solutions.

  • Provide leadership and mentoring to the project team.

  • Travel to client offices/field/vendor facilities as needed

  • Business Development

  • Support business development or pursuit activities

  • Participate in proposal preparation

  • Project Leadership

  • The successful candidate may be asked to perform as the technical lead for a transmission line design project.

  • Familiarity with all aspects of transmission line design including new lines, relocations, rebuilds, upgrades, structure replacements, and fiber optic additions; with projects ranging from 34.5kV-500kV

  • Prepare and check design deliverables including plan and profiles drawings, material selection, and construction specifications

  • Perform quality reviews for both internal and subcontractor deliverables

  • Prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints

  • Evaluate design options, criteria, and routes for technical merit

  • Understand construction standards and requirements for high voltage line work

  • Coordinate with contractor and subcontractors to ensure client satisfaction

Required Education/Experience

  • Civil (BSCE), Mechanical (BSME), or Electrical (BSEE) degree, from an accredited university

  • Experience in the design of overhead High Voltage and Extra High Voltage transmission lines including route selection, line and structure spotting, structure design and analysis, and development of construction bid packages

  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-Lite

  • The candidate must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel

  • Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in transmission line design as outlined above

  • Professional Engineering license (P.Eng.) strongly preferred

  • Experience with AutoCAD/Microstation, MFAD, and Microsoft Project is strongly preferred

  • Knowledge of transmission line routing, field program planning, project management, EPC projects, and line construction

  • Distribution/underbuild design experience is a plus

  • Managerial and leadership skills
