Training Developer

The Training Developer contributes at the individual contributor and project lead level. This is a highly autonomous role that will interacts with clients, partners, vendors and other stakeholders to represent the needs of the business and offer resources and expertise from the training and education department. Daily activities determined independently with coaching and direction from immediate supervisor.


  • Perform training needs analysis with internal clients, define project scope-of-work and manage training project costs.

  • Devise original designs and basic concepts for the development of new and innovative training materials and programs including storyboards, scripts, and other content such as simulations, role play activities, case studies, and participant / facilitator guides.

  • Participate in the development, purchase and maintenance of on-line and instructor-led training programs.

  • Design and administer testing instruments, surveys and evaluations.

  • Capture and incorporate video and perform basic editing to enhance eLearning design.

  • Assist in the maintenance and support of the learning management system. Help the organization learn, adopt and utilize these systems.

  • Provide guidance on best practices and leadership in the design of training curricula.

  • Provide project leadership including consultation, needs analysis, design, development, testing, delivery, quality assurance with a strong customer focus.

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of Instructional Systems Design (ISD) principles to analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum.

  • Knowledge of current online instructional methods and facilitation of practical exercises to ensure effective adult learning strategies are employed.

  • Skilled in formulating, developing, and producing courses in a subject area that is highly complex or procedural and innovative in nature.

  • Ability to manage tasks and projects simultaneously and navigate ambiguity while taking direction and offering input. High level of detail orientation and strong analytical ability.

  • Ability to produce course material in a variety of presentation formats. Typical formats are written manuals, written job aids, electronic job aids, computer based short tutorials, computer based full courses and Powerpoint slide decks for instructor led training.

  • Ability to do voiceover work a plus.

  • Written communication: write clearly and informatively; edits own/others’ work for spelling and grammar; varies writing style appropriately according to the audience.

  • Understanding of AICC and SCORM compliance a must

  • Expertise with training authoring tools, e.g., Captivate, Camtasia, Articulate InDesign Powerpoint, Word. Experience with Oracle UPK a must.

Desired Education:

  • Degree in Learning and Development or HR is desired

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Experience with learning management systems, particularly Cornerstone, a plus

  • Knowledge of HTML, video, audio, and graphics editing. Knowledge of Java Script, Action Script, and XML a plus.
