Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

POWER Engineers is seeking an experienced, energetic, self-starting team member with a strong project leadership background to perform engineering design activities for electrical substations. This position is posted in multiple POWER office locations with the ability to work remotely from a mutually acceptable location (please note in the application questions where you prefer to be located).

Responsibilities

The Project Engineer/Lead will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with POWER’s mission statement and our culture. The Project Engineer/Lead is expected to support the Department Manager/Area Lead (DM/AL) in achieving the goals of the department, maintain POWER’s high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork and meet the needs of our clients. This position is also responsible for assisting with developing, maintaining, and strengthening client relationships within the region.

  • Support DM/AL with the management of relationships with alliance clients

  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and quality of assigned projects

  • Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage substations including, but not limited to

o One-line diagrams

o Schematics

o Wiring diagrams

o SCADA

o Communications

o Station physical layouts

o Sections/Elevations

o Cable and conduit plans and details

o Ground grid design and details

o Foundation plans and details

o Structural plans and details

o Control enclosure design and details;

o Lightning protection plans

o Yard lighting plans

o Bills of Materials

o Inter-discipline coordination activities

o Specify and select substation equipment

o Contribute to substation equipment specifications

o Construction support

o Facility studies

o Site visits

  • Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients

  • Support PM with project reporting needs

  • Support proposal development

  • Support the mentorship and training of other team members

  • Shall understand and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs

  • Occasional travel will be required.

Required Education/Experience

  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering), BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, Associate’s degree or equivalent technical education

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in substation design

  • Experience in 15kV through 230kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards

  • Experience filling the role of project engineer/lead for several substation projects occurring concurrently

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Excel and Word

  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, tracking and organizing many tasks of varying importance and size

  • Proven ability and desire to mentor and help others

  • A strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel

Desired Education/Experience

  • Eight (8) to fourteen (14) or more years of experience in substation design.

  • Experience in electric utility substation design (15kV through 500kV) and IEEE/ANSI standards is a plus.

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.

  • Professional Engineering license (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure and ability to obtain licensure in multiple states.

  • Ability to successfully participate in multiple projects concurrently and manage budgets and schedules.

Salary DOE: The pay range for this position is $60k - $150k per year; however, base pay may be higher or lower depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This figure does not include additional compensation such as health benefits, vacation, 401k, etc.
