Job Summary or Roles and Responsibilities

The qualified individual is responsible for preparing capital cost estimates for various types of power generation and large industrial projects in our Generation Division.. The Estimator builds effective relationships with team members, internal and external clients, suppliers, and subcontractors. The Estimator reports to the manager of Construction Services. This position will work out of our Boise, Idaho office.


  • Prepare estimates with the appropriate level of detail for all design stages (Conceptual/Factored/Bottom-Up).

  • Prepare quantity take-offs and estimated costs of materials, labor, and equipment required for a total installed cost estimate based on project execution (GC/EPC/EPCM etc.).

  • Develop location specific labor pricing and production adjustment factors.

  • Assemble general conditions and staffing plan estimates based on construction execution methodology and schedule.

  • Participate in internal and external estimate reviews.

  • Prepare the Estimate Development Plan to identify responsibilities for required quantities and documentation to complete the estimate.

  • Prepare a Basis of Estimate for each estimate to describe the scope of work, estimate development methodology, reference material assumptions/clarifications/exceptions.

  • Consult with internal/external clients, subcontractors, and material suppliers to discuss and formulate estimates, effect cost reductions, and resolve issues.

  • Ensure that all work items from scope review are included in estimate and that data input from worksheets to estimate is clear and correct.

  • Ensure that all quantity surveys and pricing are accurate and complete.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • Experienced in multi-discipline cost estimating heavy construction; Civil/Mechanical/Electrical

Desired Education/Experience

  • Prior power generation and/or heavy industrial construction experience is highly preferred

  • Multi-discipline cost estimating

  • Ability to work independently, is self-motivated to perform assigned tasks

  • Exposure to construction standards, the ability to use estimating software packages, and general construction knowledge and aptitude

  • Strong computer skills, the ability to learn new software packages efficiently, and retain and apply on the job training

  • Must have strong command of the English language and possess good written and oral communications skills

  • Some travel should be expected
