Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities
POWER Engineers is currently seeking a Substation Protection & Control (P&C) Designer to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Billings, Montana office. Flexibility is available to work remotely and/or in the office. Responsibilities
The position includes working individually within a team to complete complex and technically challenging aspects of electrical utility substation design and understanding and adhering to client standards.
Perform the detailed P&C design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations. Typical designs include but are not limited to:
One-line diagrams
P&C equipment selection
Protection and control schematics
Wiring diagrams
SCADA
Communications
Material lists
Conduit and cable sizing/routing
AC and DC systems calculations and sizing
Engineering Documentation such as Requests for Information (RFIs), Scope Documents, Equipment Specifications, Protection and Control Descriptions, and Construction Specifications
Work with engineers to develop drawing packages
Coordinate designs with other disciplines such as Substation Physical, Structural, and Civil
Participation in quality assurance and quality control programs
Contribute to engineering project scheduling and budget management
Required Education/Experience
Associate's degree or equivalent technical education
Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation; experience with both is preferred
Understanding of protection and control design
Electrical reasoning skills and attention to detail
Good command of the Microsoft Office suite, with an emphasis on Outlook, Excel and Word
The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
Candidate must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship
Desired Education/Experience
Three (3) or more years' experience in utility substation design is preferred
Familiarity with Raster Design and/or Bentley Descartes
Ability to produce applicable drawings from rough sketches, notes, client examples, vendor drawings, and such
Ability to select materials based on technical requirements
