Archaeological Crew Chief

POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a responsible and energetic Archaeological Field Crew Chief to work with the Central Cultural Resources Department in overseeing and coordinating project field crews. While initially project-based, there is the opportunity for full-time employment.

Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

This position supervises and successfully executes a range of project types in the electrical transmission, renewables, industrial and midstream engineering sectors. These projects may involve extended periods of field supervision. They will work with a multidisciplinary team of archeologists, architectural historians, historians, biologists, and ecologists on a variety of project scales.

Pay for the Crew Chief Position starts at $22/hour and increases with demonstrated experience. POWER covers travel and lodging, while you keep the rewards points. Most jobs include overtime and per diem, as well as a company vehicle or rental truck access. Applicants must also have a strong work ethic that demonstrates leadership skills and the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in proposal writing

  • Leading field logistics including organization of field staff, renting vehicles, and reserving hotels

  • Directing archeological fieldwork and laboratory analysis

  • Report preparation

Required Education/Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Archeology, Anthropology, or a related discipline

  • Three (3) + years’ experience in Cultural Resource Management

  • One (1) + years’ experience as a Field Director/Project Archeologist/or Crew Chief, supervising Cultural Resource Management investigatory field efforts

  • Demonstrated ability to perform and lead Phase I archaeological survey work in Texas and surrounding states

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to successfully lead teams composed of diverse personalities

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of equipment, technology, and paperwork used in the recording and documenting of archeological sites and artifacts

  • Strong technical writing skills are required

  • Experience in analysis and report writing

  • Experience with local cultural history and material culture in Texas and surrounding states

  • Ability to work independently and to fully plan and execute personal assignments with minimal instruction

  • Technical experience in operating a GPS

  • Knowledge of health and safety standards

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word and Excel, and ability to use related computer systems

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Ability to work long hours and in harsh environments and in varying weather conditions
