Air Quality/Environmental Staff Engineer/Scientist

POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Air Quality/Environmental Staff Engineer/Scientist to join a team of environmental consulting professionals assigned to our Baltimore, Maryland Office. This position will include weekly fieldwork in the Washington DC metro area as well as occasional fieldwork in Central PA, assisting our clients in establishing and maintaining compliance with state and federal air quality/environmental regulations.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Performing inspections of industrial facilities to evaluate environmental compliance, including maintenance of data sufficient for recordkeeping and reporting requirements

  • Participating in other routine field visits that will include coordination of emissions testing programs and conduct of visual opacity tests.

  • Inspecting industrial facilities for environmental compliance for chemical, waste and oil storage requirements, as well as stormwater management activities.

  • Calculating air emissions from a variety of industrial sources, including oil and gas operations

  • Performing air quality and other environmental regulatory compliance tasks, including preparation of periodic reports such as emissions inventories, hazardous chemical inventory reports, and others.

  • Preparing applications for initial pre-construction air quality permits and for air quality permit renewals, amendments, and alterations for submission to state and federal agencies.

  • Obtaining, updating, and maintaining plans, permits, and/or standard operating procedures.

  • Defining data requirements, gathering and validating information for emission calculations,

  • Preparing oil spill prevention plans and stormwater pollution prevention plans.

  • Collecting data and performing calculations to assess clients’ carbon footprints and sustainability performance

  • Evaluating and interpreting environmental regulations to determine applicability and developing compliance strategies.

  • Preparing charts or graphs from data samples, providing summary information on the environmental relevance of the data

  • Contributing to ambient air quality impacts analyses utilizing dispersion models (such as AERMOD, SCREEN3) by compiling emissions and stack parameter data

  • Communicating scientific and technical information through oral briefings, written documents, workshops, and conferences

  • Performing technical work and growing into various aspects of project management, including managing small tasks and projects; preparing small proposals; performing increasingly complex project tasks in support of large projects; and liaising with clients and other POWER staff

    Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Meteorology, or related science field

  • Zero to three (3) years of relevant environmental experience

  • Excellent communications skills including report writing, oral presentations, and direct verbal communication

  • Proficiency in the use of standard software including Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, and particularly Excel

  • Availability to travel around the DC area, Maryland, and central Pennsylvania (i.e., day trips) approximately 50% of the time

  • Site-specific health and safety training and/or OSHA 4-hour HAZWOPER training preferred.

  • Valid driver's license
