Consultant – IT System Administrator
POWER Engineers, Inc., is seeking a Consultant – IT System Administrator to join our Geospatial and Asset Management team.
Roles and Responsibilities
Our ideal candidate has a passion for lifelong learning of system administration skills and is both flexible and adaptable to new situations. The successful candidate will be able to combine skills in unique ways to solve challenging IT issues for both our clients and our internal staff.
This position is responsible for installing and configuring software, hardware and networks; monitoring system performance and troubleshooting issues; and ensuring security and efficiency of IT infrastructure. Additionally, this position interacts with clients, leading workshops as needed, and giving recommendations to clients regarding their software, hardware and networks. Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
Install and configure software and hardware
Apply operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes
Manage network servers and technology tools
Answer technical questions and assist users
Set up accounts and VMs
Monitor and tune performance of systems
Troubleshoot and resolve issues and outages
Automate common processes through the use of scripts
Ensure security through access controls, backups and firewalls
Setup and maintain internal and external dev, test and production environments
Assist with training team members on new technologies
Create and maintain technical documentation, manuals and IT policies
Help evaluate the cost/benefit of different IT system options
Provide recommendations regarding a strategic roadmap for IT systems
Make presentations both internally and to customers
Required Education/Experience
Five (5) + years of experience in IT system administration roles covering a wide variety of hardware, software, and network administration
Two (2) + years of experience with setting up and managing cloud-based environments (Azure and/or AWS)
Must have excellent problem-solving skills
Must have strong time management skills including the ability to multi-task on various projects and priorities under fixed schedules in a fast-paced environment
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate in non-technical terms to non-technical people
Up to 10% travel will be required
